Yo, let me tell you about this super authentic Japanese curry spot in Osaka! It’s tucked away in this old-school food district called Shin-Umeda Shokudogai – and trust me, if you’re looking for that real-deal, home-style Japanese curry in downtown Osaka, this is THE place to hit up!
Listen up – Japanese curry is its own thing, you know? It’s not like Indian curry or European stuff. We took curry and made it our own way – that’s Japanese Curry for ya! Man, when I was a kid, I’d get so hyped when Mom said curry was for dinner. These days, Japanese curry is getting mad attention worldwide.
This place’s curry is slightly spicy with this deep, rich flavor – what we call “koku” in Japanese. It’s like… imagine a flavor that’s been cooking forever, just getting deeper and more complex. That’s what’s up! Every curry shop has their own special mix of spices, which is why each place tastes different.
The way the curry sauce hugs the rice is just chef’s kiss. And yo, the toppings are where it’s at! You gotta try the katsu curry – it’s this crispy pork cutlet on top, super popular in Japan. I always go for katsu curry over regular curry, no cap!
This spot has this crazy special called “choi toku” where they hook you up with extra toppings – you get katsu PLUS eggplant AND a wiener! Sounds wild, right? Funny story – the pic in my profile doesn’t have all that ‘cause the owner messed up my order LOL! Next time I’m definitely getting that choi toku upgrade!
Just heads up – the place is mad tiny, just a narrow counter inside, and it might be tricky to find. I dropped a Google Street View link below to help you track it down. Get there and try it yourself when you hit up Osaka!
